Fit at 50!

We all know that staying in shape gets harder as you get older.  But with more guys in their 50s smashing the Ironman and looking younger than their years suggest, you can stay in shape as you age.  Pete is a great example of this:  “I hit 50 and suddenly I was having to work harder to battle the bulge. When I tried to squeeze into my Dinner Jacket in June – I realized that I had lost that particular fight. I made a vow that, after the holidays, I would sort myself out before my 51st birthday.” 

What makes it harder to stay in shape after 50? 

As we age, our bodies change.  Our focus changes. Our motivation changes. Our nutritional needs change. Our activity habits and abilities change.  For example, not many 20 year old’s are leading a family and/or a company.  

That’s before we have to deal with the physical changes.  It is common for 50+ year old’s to notice some physical signs of ageing like creaking joints.  Your sleep patterns are probably different.  Whilst you may have partied until 5:30am in your 20’s, you may now be waking up naturally at that time.  If you are female you are probably experiencing pre-menopause or menopause symptoms.  Gentlemen, your testosterone levels are likely reducing.  

Now, before you give up, let me give you hope!  You can get fitter and healthier than ever before.  Just ask Pete. 

Ripped at 50

At the start I weighed in at 14st 8 lb and a 37 inch waist. I now weigh 12st 8lb – I had to punch a new hole in my favourite 12 year old belt and went shopping for 32” jeans last week.

James designed my diet – it was simpler than I thought and, despite a massive cut in daily calories, I didn’t need to snack and did not feel hungry. Three weeks on and I am still keeping to similar foods and, even on a full daily calorie intake, have kept to the same body weight!

The fitness plan worked a treat – I now have a good regime to build muscle and lose body fat. Amazingly, the aches and pains have gone and I have not had to use my asthma inhaler for over 2 months now.

Best of all – people have noticed! 

What can I say – cheaper than weight loss surgery!”
