One heck of a motivation

For Lee the stakes were high.  He was getting married in four weeks, and he was keen to look good in his suit for the love of his life.  A clever man, Lee also wanted to feel great on the biggest day of his life so a crash diet just wouldn’t cut it (note:  it is never, ever worth it!).  

Lee was in good shape when he came to us.  He was experienced in training but like so many people he was stuck at 15% body fat and couldn’t break through this plateau.  So Lee came to Pure Performance for advice so that he could look and feel great for his wedding day.  

The results were fantastic – 15% body fat dropped to 10.5% in just four weeks.  We can testify that he looked sharp at his wedding.  

Our strategy 

With just four weeks to make progress (and a lot of time taken up for wedding prep!) we got straight to work.  As Lee was in pretty good shape already we didn’t have to spend much time building strength and mobility as he already had it.   

Nutrition:  We tweaked his nutrition, undertaking carb cycling, which is a dietary approach in which you alternate carb intake on a daily, weekly or monthly basis.  It is commonly and very effectively used to lose fat, maintain physical performance while dieting, or overcome a weight loss plateau.  We also introduced some calorie cycling, which means eating a higher amount of calories on some days and a lower amount of calories on other days. Rather than trying to remain at a consistent calorie deficit every day, this approach allows you to have more flexibility in your eating habits.  

Exercise:  Lee worked his full body, splitting his workouts between upper and lower body across the four weeks.  The average week would look something like this: 

  • Monday Chest, Back. Nutrition Moderate carbs 
  • Tuesday Legs, Calves. Nutrition High carbs 
  • Wednesday Rest day. Nutrition No carbs 
  • Thursday Shoulders, Bicep,Triceps. Nutrition low carb 
  • Friday Chest, Back. Nutrition Moderate carbs 
  • Saturday Rest day.  Nutrition low carb 
  • Sunday Rest day. Nutrition no carbs
